If you are a professional artist with a connection to the Netherlands, you can join us by selecting the ‘Sign in’ option on echobeach.nl. Your data will then be verified by a group of colleagues. To do this, we will need information about your practice. In most cases, providing your website will be sufficient. If you do not have one, or if your website does not contain a CV, please tell us about your artistic practice. Please also make sure you read the server rules. While much is allowed on an artist’s platform, not everything is permitted.
Applications are usually processed within a few days. If it is very busy, or if it is the holiday season, it may take a little longer.
As soon as you receive your login information, you can start posting. It’s possible that your first post will only be set to ‘public’ after ‘review by a human’. We will try to do this promptly. You can only start uploading your Instagram archive after this has been done. Also, one full day must have passed since your account was activated. These measures are intended to prevent bot activity.
Invite your friends!
There might not be many people you know on echobeach yet, as we have only just started. Therefore, you should invite any artists you know to join you, and announce on your old social media that you can also be found on echobeach from now on.
Dive into the Open Internet
Go and find interesting accounts and groups in the Fediverse. It would also be helpful to create a Mastodon account and search for themes that are important to you from there. Use the search function to find hashtags that return the right type of post for you, and follow those hashtags. If you find great accounts this way, follow them too. If you want to follow them from your Echobeach account but can’t see them there, copy and paste the full address into the search bar. Going forward, Echobeach will now recognise that server.

Join us to discuss and build!
We have a Signal group that all members can join to discuss plans and bugs, or to ask any questions. Send us your phone number if you would like to join. Currently, there is one official working group: the sign-up committee. If things get busier, we might need several of these. There will also be working groups for areas such as publicity, workshops, suggesting features and the design of the platform (echobeach.nl) and website (echobeach.org). We will announce these in due course through the mailing list and the Signal group.
